The Kitesurfing UK scene is incredibly active. Everyone sees kitesurfing when they go on holiday abroad and it look idyllic, warm water, sunshine etc. Well here in the UK we have some fantastic conditions for kitesurfing too. Yeah alright we have to wear a wetsuit most of the time but when everything starts to work and the wind start to blow you really can’t beat some of our local North Wales beaches for picturesque scenery un crowed beaches and incredible water conditions.
Well With a little bit of knowledge you can kitesurf in every direction at Aberdovey. It’s one of the most versatile beaches in the area. We have kited abroad and traveled the world but still, when we come back home and the wind starts to blow and the sun comes out you really cant beat a good day at Aberdyfi Kitesurfing.
For Kitesurfing UK Beaches Aberdovey
S – Normally soft and fickle on shore at the corner.
SW – Our Fave, bit wet but you get the best lagoons and a nice wave. Onshore at the point.
W – Same as SW, sort of.
NW – On shore at Cemetery and wavier.
N – Cross shore at Cemetery with a strong rip. Normally best going to Borth.
NE – Go to Ynyslas for a beautiful flat water lagoon, best on an incoming tide a few hours after low tide.
E – Here comes Ivor, our Katabatic but go to Ynyslas, best on an incoming tide a few hours after low tide.
SE – Aberdovey main beach in the estuary, but not at high tide, busy weekends or between the moorings. Competent riders only.
Land Kiting (Powerkite, Kitebuggy, Landboard)
For land kiting head to the north of the Trefeddian Hotel towards Tywyn, the sand is a lot harder for wheels.
Be sensible and avoid Powerkiting on the main beach in high season.
East winds are also very gusty at Aberdyfi for land kiting Ynys las is better but the beach gets very busy with parked cars and has more hazards.
Have fun and be safe, Aberdovey is very tidal in the village and remote at the point, kite with a friend and as with all kitesurfing uk spots take food and wrap up warm for the winter months.
